Dear Mom,
Amazing how fast time flies… just finished a book The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom on that
very subject. Interesting. In the weeks leading up to Christmas until now, I also read Margo Dill’s, Finding
My Place, as well as The Lifeboat
by Charlotte Rogan, Talk Before Sleep
by Elizabeth Berg and The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak. And don't forget Fifty Shades of Santa edited by Patrica Smith. I really loved all the books, page turners until the end. I
couldn’t wait until I was at the end, and yet, I didn’t want them to end.
Hhmmm. All different writers with their unique voices, which helped clear up
some self-badgering I do… thinking I wish I could write like that. But how
boring if all writing were the same. We all have different tastes… you know the
saying, different strokes for different folks.
I love to write, always will and whether or not it measures
up to others doesn’t need to be a concern. It’s about putting my heart
and soul into it and to just be. Just be… a writer. My own kind.
And with that, I’d like to invite you all to check out The Writers' Lens as there’s a little ole interview with me. Thanks Teresa for
inviting me.
May you all have a safe, healthy, prosperous and creative New Year… whether you write, paint, sculpt, play music, do
photography, crafts, film, sew, cook, whatever you create… get a move on and do
your thing!
Writers, here’s something you can
submit to: Cupid’s Quiver. Don’t waste any time as the deadline is
January 15th. Click on the poster for submission details.
And if you’re looking for a challenge to get
you in the habit of writing every day, maybe try this—I’m going to... try. I heard about it from my friend Estrella from Life's a Stage. Check out: Mindful Writing Challenge
I read Jodi Picoult's "Lone Wolf" this past week. A wonderful book.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the leads, wishes, and encouragement on your blog today, Lynn. Slightly prior to this time last year, we were together releasing Storm Country in Joplin. My, what a year. I am glad to move into a new one with lots of hopes. I have read about half of the same reads you have listed...loved Margo Dill's book! And Berg has only disappointed me one time in ALL her books..yep, read them all. Have you read her book on writing? Well, Happy New Year to you, Lynn...night.

ReplyDeleteIn regards to your interview...Stephen King must have had some nightmarish dreams. "Dreamcatcher" comes to mind. Not that vampires, crazed writers, crazed captors of writers, a superflu apocalypse, the dead coming to life, or a bullied telekinetic waif are all rainbows and unicorns.
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteYou have been an inspiration to me. Congratulations on your interview, your publications, your successes. You will surpass every goal this year with your positive energy and attitude. Happy 2013 to you.
Great interview, Lynn, and I enjoyed this "meaty" post with all of its inspiring information!
ReplyDeleteLynn, you are an excellent writer! I love reading everything that I come across (especially your letters to me, lol!)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year,
Kathy M.
No need to compare your writing to anyone else, Lynn. It stands alone remarkably well. Thanks for the good advice and uplifting message!

ReplyDeleteMom, how did you find the time to read all those books! :) I love that you noted in your interview that people can write you letters as a form of communicating! Very cool. I also love how you said, "written word will always be a treasure, so long as we treat it that way." It makes me want to start journaling again. It was a great interview!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great interview, glad you shared, Lynn! So inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the mention, glad you liked the challenge I invited you to give a try. Hope you'll share sometime.
